Notre Dame’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs Releases New Mission Video Celebrating Military-Connected Students and Servant Leadership

Author: Labbe, Michael

The University of Notre Dame’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (OMVA) is thrilled to announce the release of our newest video, a powerful testament to our commitment to elevate the ethos of servant leadership by championing our military-connected students. This video is a celebration of the remarkable contributions these students have made to our country and the unique perspectives they bring to our campus community.

In this video, viewers will hear from Father Dowd, who eloquently discusses the importance of a spirit of service at Notre Dame. Father Dowd’s insights remind us of the deep-rooted values that guide our mission and the vital role that service plays in shaping our university's identity.

Father Rocca also makes an appearance, sharing the rich history that grounds our mission. His reflections provide a historical context that underscores the significance of our commitment to supporting military-connected students.

Ken Heckel, the director of OMVA, offers a deep dive into what lies at the core of our mission. He shares the foundational principles that drive our efforts and highlights the essential role that military-connected students play in the broader Notre Dame community.

We are also incredibly proud to highlight the perspectives of three of our own veteran students: Shauna Staples, John Noonan, and Taemin Yoon. Their insights are a testament to the strength, resilience, and dedication that define our veteran community. By sharing their experiences, we aim to inspire and engage others in the spirit of servant leadership.

"Our mission is to elevate the ethos of servant leadership, by building an inclusive and vibrant community of military-connected students, staff and faculty," said Heckel. “We try to find opportunities where we can celebrate the service of our military-connected students but also our staff and faculty”. This video is a celebration of their achievements and an affirmation of our commitment to support them every step of the way.

The OMVA invites the entire Notre Dame community, as well as the public, to watch this inspiring video. Join us in celebrating the incredible contributions of our military-connected students, staff and faculty and the unwavering spirit of service that defines Notre Dame.

Watch the video now and share your thoughts with us. Together, we can continue to champion those who have given so much for our country and ensure that their legacy of service endures.
