Undergraduate Reservist, Business Analytics Major – Class of 2022

Having grown up watching Rudy and Notre Dame Football, the first sounds Kevin made as a baby may have been humming the Notre Dame Victory March. When it came time to choose a college, Notre Dame’s prestige, mission as a force for good in the world, and special place in his heart drew him to South Bend. Enrolled as a non-ROTC student, Kevin planned on pursuing a degree by taking a more traditional path. Before starting his first year at Notre Dame, though, his plans changed. Kevin was working as an employee at Burger King when he was approached by a Marine Corps Recruiter. Having never considered a career in the military, Kevin was hesitant at first. He soon realized what great virtues a life in the military can instill in him, and, considering how much he loved his country and how lucky he is to have the freedoms he has, Kevin decided to join the Marine Corps. Having been late for an ROTC scholarship and unsure about his plans after college, he chose to take part in a 92 Day Reservist Program in Parris Island, SC between his freshman and sophomore years. During these life-changing 13 weeks, Kevin gained a perspective of which he will never lose sight. Now, Kevin is both a drilling reservist in South Bend and a fulltime student at the University of Notre Dame. While conflicts surely arise in balancing his academic obligations

and those of the Marine Corps, Kevin has found that it only sharpens his organizational and time management skills. Heavily involved with dorm life and committees in Morrissey Hall and having been selected for the Men’s Rowing Team in his sophomore year, Kevin certainly remains busy. A firm believer in hard work and having found new self-limits on Parris Island, he doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. Kevin may pursue a commission via programs such as the Platoon Leaders Course (PLC) or Officer Candidate School (OCS) upon graduation.
