Biography

Prior to his role at the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (OMVA), Labbe served in the United States Navy. He earned his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Mississippi in 2017.

During his Naval service, Labbe worked as a Surface Warfare Officer, serving aboard USS Philippine Sea and USS Boxer, including a deployment with USS Abraham Lincoln in the Indo-Pacific region. In these roles, he held numerous watch positions including Officer of the Deck, Engineering Officer of the Watch (Steam), and Antisubmarine Warfare Commander.

His most recent Naval assignment was as the N7 Training Staff Officer for Destroyer Squadron TWO ONE, where he was tasked with validating the training programs for seven Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyers.

In 2023, Labbe joined the University of Notre Dame as the Assistant Director for Military and Veterans Affairs, where he manages various projects and initiatives that align with OMVA's mission. These include the Host Family Program, a support system for military-connected students; the Notre Dame Warrior-Scholar Project, designed to assist service members in transitioning to academic life; and RouteND, a service member recruitment tool designed to fill Notre Dame with the best and brightest. His work is informed by a commitment to align OMVA's operations with the University's priorities and values.

Labbe holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Mississippi as well as a masters in Data Science from the University of Notre Dame.

Beyond his professional life, Michael cherishes family time in South Bend with his wife, Katherine, and their two children.
