Student Access and Student Success
At the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (OMVA), we prioritize building a supportive and inclusive community where our military-connected students can thrive.
Student Access: Strengthening Pipelines for Veterans to Attend ND
These four approaches are designed to empower veterans, helping ensure a smooth transition to academic life at Notre Dame.
- Service to School: OMVA partners with Service to School to provide top-tier support for prospective applicants. We help translate military experience into civilian terms, showcasing your unique skills to admissions. At Notre Dame, we recognize your valuable experience and aim to highlight it effectively.
- Warrior Scholar Project: In collaboration with the Warrior Scholar Project, we offer a boot camp designed for transitioning service members. This program boosts confidence and prepares you for academic success, ensuring you’re ready for the classroom from day one.
- Meeting with OMVA: We are dedicated to supporting you at every stage of your journey, from initial interest to application. Fill out a request to meet with an OMVA representative, and we’ll get in touch to assist you.
- Benefits Assistance: Navigating VA benefits can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. OMVA is here to help you understand and access your benefits, ensuring you have the support you need. Let's tackle it together!
Student Success: Building Community and Supporting Each Other
We help build a strong community and provide support for veterans, fostering connections and success both inside and outside the classroom at Notre Dame, including:
- Social Outings and Events: OMVA organizes social outings, get-togethers, and watch parties, offering opportunities for students to connect outside the classroom.
- Orientation Connections: During Orientation, we facilitate introductions and encourage students to join our GroupMe, fostering instant connections and camaraderie.
- Resource Hub: OMVA serves as a hub for resources, guidance, and encouragement, creating a network where students can thrive academically and personally.
- Host Family Program: This program offers a warm welcome for military-connected students, providing a support system within the South Bend/Michiana community. Students form meaningful relationships with local families, enriching their college experience and fostering a sense of belonging.
- Academic and Career Support: Whether it's academic advising, career readiness workshops, social gatherings, or interactions with host families, our community is united in its commitment to each other's success.
- Celebrating Achievements: We recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our students, fostering an environment where achievements are shared and celebrated.
- Holistic Support: By working hand-in-hand with campus offices such as Career Development, Campus Ministry, University Counseling Center, and Student Health and Wellness, we offer holistic support that addresses the diverse needs of our military-connected students, fostering their overall well-being and success.
